Why Texas? More than just ten-gallon hats and rodeos, Texas boasts a myriad of universities and colleges, world-class theaters and museums, an excellent food scene, relatively low cost of living, and a high job growth rate. Houston is the third largest city in the U.S. and is considered the land of opportunity for many. Ever the cities of contrasts, however, Houston and Austin wrestle with systems of institutionalized injustice and socially, economically, and environmentally unsustainable practices ingrained into its fiber.
TX-ESC members spend a year exploring an alternative to this unsustainable lifestyle. What does it mean to live simply? Communally? Adventurously? What does radical hospitality look like? How do we love each other more deeply? How do we seek and serve God in all persons? We seek not to answer but to live into these questions, and in so doing, inspire and infect our communities, congregations, and the Diocese at large with a hunger for true justice.
